"The Attraction of Lesser Things"
Chapter 2 in the "Relationship Principles of Jesus" book deals with the lower values that often take away our attention to God. In simple words, the author states that "the problem we have with valuing relationships is not in the knowing but in the doing." In other words, the acting out of our relationships has a huge role on how we perceive our world and God.
On page 30, the author brings up a very important point: "The only way to change your priorities is to begin to make different choices in your relationships." It is this simplicity that makes this chapter so powerful and impacting. Later on within the chapter, the author creates another important point - the pursuit of lower values can get in the way of our relationships. In essence, our relationships can easily be disrupted by the little things in life.
The author then focuses upon the passage of Matthew 6:24-35. He draws three main points from this famous bible scripture - 1) you can`t serve money or God at the same time, 2) Life is more than clothing and food, and 3) "You have so little faith!" (dealing with our priorities and our faith).
In my opinion, the greatest point made in this chapter is the following: "God does not demand of me that I accomplish great things. He does demand of me that I strive for excellence in my relationships."
This quote is very powerful. Please let this phrase permeate your mind and your soul.
Matthew 6:33-34 - " But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own."
