Thanks to everyone who is following my blog. I have been a little busy this week but I am announcing a new series that I will start after I complete my highlights from Spain series. Recently, I have been reading an excellent book by John Julius Norwich titled "A Short History of Byzantium." Written in 1997, this book tries to deal with the historical chronology dealing with the Byzantium Empire. This empire was the Eastern section of the Roman Empire that survived until the late 15th century, when it was conquered by the Ottoman Turks.
Within this amazing book, John Julius Norwich creates a vivid book about this empire that played a crucial role in western civilization. In the introduction of this book, he states,
"Our civilization has never adequately acknowledged the debt it owes to the Empire of the East. Were it not for that great bastion of Christendom, what chance would Europe have had against the armies of the King of Persia in the seventh century, or those of the Caliph of Baghdad in the eighth? What great language would we be speaking today, and what god would we worship?"
In the upcoming series, I will be posting more quotes from his writing. Please stay tuned in and enjoy the quote above.
