Highlights of Madrid: Plaza del Sol (Part 1)

In this post, I will be continuing my series of photos from the beautiful city of Madrid, Spain.  Today, I will be highlighting the Plaza del Sol (Plaza of the Sun), where all the miles in Spain are based from.  However, when I visited this spot in June, the plaza was full of people in tents.

When I was there, it looked like this:












What a difference!  What caused this huge exodus of tents to the Plaza del Sol?  In an earlier post, I highlighted the Acampada Movement that was happening within Spain.  With a terrible economy, crushing debt, high rates of unemployment and distrust in their current political situation, people took to the Plazas in each major city and took over those places with their tents.  For more information, please read the link below.   I will be posting some more photos from this visit to the Plaza in the following posts.
