The Relationship Principles of Jesus: Day 6

In Chapter 6, Tom Holladay deals with the theme "Love Everyone as your neighborr."   He begins this chapter simply: "Jesus` challenge to love God is more than enough to captivate our thoughts - but then he adds the simple command, 'Love your neighbor as yourself.'"  This introductory line is very powerful and simple to the point.  God commands us to love everyone that we encounter within our lives.

He then talks about the Great Samaritan parable told by Jesus in Luke 10:25-37.  Two major truths can be seen from this parable: 1) it pictures the value of loving everyone and 2) speaks to the value of loving someone.  To break it down more, the author states that "everyone means there is no one outside the limits of my love; someone means I can only practice love toward people I am with now."

The author then finishes off the chapter with an amazing statement: "Some of us are better than others at human love, but none of us are able to express God`s kind of love in our own power.  That`s the point.  God wants us to depend on him for the power to love.  So he challenges us to love in a way we can only accomplish through daily dependence on his power."

Luke 10:27 - "Love you neighbor as yourself."
