"Love God with all your soul"
In this chapter, the theme articulated is loving God with all of your soul. In the Hebrew language of the Old Testament, the word soul meant "nephesh". This word literally meant that God breathes life into our souls. In the New Testament Greek language, the word soul meant "psyche". In other words, "It has to do with your will, your drive, the passion of the life, the power by which you live."
To continue this great thought, the author states that "You are a living soul. You have an awareness held by nothing else in creation because God himself breathes life into you." The author continues this theme by stating that there are 3 ways by which one can love God with all of their soul: Seek Him passionately, Love Him personality, and Deciding to do what He wants us to do.
To end the chapter, the author describes the importance that Phillip Doddridge had on William Wilberforce and other 18th century Christians. The author includes this amazing prayer by Doddridge,
"This day do I, with the utmost solemnity, surrender myself to thee, I renounce all former lords that have had dominion over me; and I consecrate to thee all that I am, and all that I have; the faculties of my mind, the members of my body, my worldly possessions, my time, and my influence over others; to be all used entirely for thy glory, and resolutely employed in obedience to thy commands, as long as thou continuest me in life...To thee I leave the management of all events, and say without reserve, 'Not my will, but thine be done.'"
