The Relationship Principles of Jesus: Day 7

In chapter 7, Tom Holladay deals with the theme "Love Someone as your neighbor." He uses the story of the Good Samaritan to emphasize the second truth of the passage - "I must limit the expression of my love."  To back up this statement, he states "While we seek to have God`s heart of love for everyone, love is more than an attitude.  It must be translated into practical actions."

Later on in the chapter, the author says that "Consistent love grows out higher priorities and higher motivations. Consistent love can only be expressed one opportunity at a time."  It is this important thought that drives this whole chapter: love is effective when it is done consistently.

To end off the chapter, in the section "Jesus values relationships!", he states a simple prayer:

"Lord, teach me to love you with all my heart, soul, mind, and strength.  And teach me how to love my neighbor as myself.  I have a lot to learn.  Right now, Lord, I bring to you a relationship that`s on my mind.  Would you lead me as I read this book and look at your example to see what to do and how to do it?  This week, help me to see just one thing I can do that will make a difference.  And Jesus, I can`t close this prayer without thanking you for all you`ve done to create a relationship with me.  You know me and you love me and you gave me your life for me.  Thank you for who you are."
