Highlights of Granada: Iglesia de Santa Ana

Greetings,

In Granada, the Iglesia de Santa Ana (The Church of Saint Ann) is one of the most interesting churches that one can find.  The element that makes this church distinct is its "Mudejar" style of architecture.  Mudejar art and architecture was known for its combination of Muslim and Christian aesthetics.  This was especially prominent in Granada, since it was the last Moorish town to fall under the power of the Catholic Kings in the late 15th century.  A website from Granada describes the church in this way:

"Granada's wealthy middle-classes aspire to get married in one of two churches: this one or Basílica de Nuestra Señora de las Angustias . Come on a Saturday in the late afternoon or early evening in spring and summer and you'll see a posh wedding. The Mudejar-style ceiling is particularly impressive. Diego de Siloe designed the building in the 16th century in Renaissance-style. Its ornate plateresque façade features a doorway with a semicircular arch, three niches containing stone-carved statues of saints and a medallion with images of the Virgin and child."
